Our X-Cart speed optimization is performed by a very experienced PHP programmer with intricate knowledge of mysql, smarty and x-cart.  When performing speed optimization we look at each x-cart on a cart-to-cart basis and before making changes to a file evaluate it individually to determine what possible side-effects any change may have.
