1. Create a category (name it something similar to – 'sale_group_A') and make sure it is disabled.
On Sale -> Settings -> Calculate Sales on both the Cart and Checkout pages
This will simply calculate the sales once the customer reaches the checkout.
Or you can add the sale calculation to your custom mod, or the cart.php page if you don't redirect to the cart after adding a product. To do this add the following code to your script somewhere after the product has been added to the cart:
If this is the cart.php file you can add it after:

# Recalculate cart totals after new item added
$products = func_products_in_cart($cart, (!empty($user_account["membershipid"]) ? $user_account["membershipid"] : ""));

An exclusion is a way to force one sale to first check if another sale is active before applying itself. Exclusions can be tricky, but are very powerful once you get the hang of how they work.

For example. Lets say you have two sales:

* Buy 2 get a 20% discount

* Buy 3 get a 33% discount.

You don't want the customer to be eligible for both sales. If they buy 2 you would like them to have a 20% discount, but if they buy 3 or more you would like them to have a 33% discount.

For this you will want the Buy 2 get a 20% discount sale to first check and make sure the customer isn't eligible for the Buy 3 get a 33% discount sale. You can use an exclusion for this.

First make sure the order to apply is setup so the Buy 3 get a 33% discount sale is applied first. This is a very important. Using the example above the order of these sales would be:

1 [order to apply] - Buy 3 get 33% discount

2 [order to apply] - Buy 2 get 20% discount

The order to apply is set on the main sales Overview page. To get to this page go to admin/onsale.php and click the Overview tab.

Any sale selected as exclusion must have a higher lower to apply than the sale you are currently creating/editing.

The best way to imagine this is the On Sale module will go through all sales setup on your store one by one applying discounts, adding free products, etc. Using our example the On Sale module will first check if the customer has 3 qualifying products in their cart. If they do the sale will be applied.

On Sale will then move to the next sale, using the value set in order to apply. On Sale will check if the customer will receive the Buy 2 get 20% discount sale. However, if Buy 3 get 33% discount is set as an exclusion, and the customer is receiving the discount from this sale the On Sale module will skip (or exclude) the Buy 2 get 20% discount.

If the customer isn't receiving the Buy 3 get 33% discount the Buy 2 get 20% discount sale will be applied as normal.

1. First you must create the sale with a coupon code entered that operate as the 'master' sale. For example, if you want to send the customer a coupon for $10, create a sale to discount $10 off an order and assign a coupon name to this sale.

2. You must then create a sale that will control the distribution of the coupons (saletype 7). There are 4 different criteria that can send a coupon to the customer after a sale.

• If a customer buy certain products
• Buys a certain amount of products
• Spends a certain amount
• The coupon is sent for every order

You will also need to select a master coupon to use. If you selected the example coupon sale for $10 off your order the customer would receive this coupon when their order was processed.

In the example below, if the customer spends $100 they will receive a coupon for $10 off (the previously created sale).

Notes:

• The coupon sale must be active and valid (not expired), if not the coupon sending sale will be marked invalid, and you will need to delete it and create a new sale with a valid coupon.

• The customer will not be sent the actual coupon name, but an alias using their last name and 4 digits, example: SMITH1345, DOE8219

• The order must first be processed for the coupon to send. The order cannot go from Queued to Completed, it must first be processed.

The On Sale modules applies sales in the order set on the main Sale Overview page in your X-Cart admin section.

For sales based on subtotals such as a free shipping sale you will want to set the Order to apply to a number higher than any sales that are discounting products in the cart. This will then calculate the subtotal based sales on the discounted price.
When using the Order Subtotals Section
discount the products that are receiving the discount must have the option checked on the product modify pages to 'Apply global discounts'.
